Building temporary refugee shelters

Despite the eviction of the Calais ‘Jungle’ in October 2016 and the Dunkirk/Grande Synthe camp burning down in April 2017, there are still thousands of refugees sleeping rough in the forests in northern France. This desperate situation finds these displaced people living in appalling conditions, some of whom are unaccompanied minors as young as 9 years of age.

Volunteering for Help Refugees

A team of 5 of us from Dick George Creative is travelling to Calais on the 13th of December to work for a week, using the skills we regularly apply when making large props, only this time we’ll be building temporary refugee shelters.

Although we’ve worked with ‘Help Refugees’ before, we are preparing ourselves for a challenging experience, witnessing first-hand what life has thrown at these unfortunate men, women and children.

There is a way that you can help. Your donation, no matter how small, will make a huge difference. Donations are always helpful to fund the resources that we will need when we go over. However, some people might prefer to help by doing something similar. If that’s the case, some people may want to start their own fundraisers to fund their mission trip over to Calais to help refugees themselves. By looking at some of these fundraising ideas, people could gain some inspiration to try and fund their own trip over to help refugees themselves. However, if this isn’t possible, donations to the link below would also be appreciated. By getting all the help we can, we can offer the best care to these refugees.

Thank you very much for your support. We’ll let you know how we get on when we return.
