We were involved in an interesting project recently where we needed to manufacture an enormous stained glass window in the form of a giant map which, for health and safety reasons and due to weight restrictions, wasn’t glass.
The completed piece was 2.4 metres wide and 6 metres high. The lead detail on the map formed the boundaries between countries and each of these had its own colourway and unique veining. A huge amount of research was done in respect of transparent, natural mediums, i.e. marble, alabaster and onyx. To create the desired effect we used a variety of resins and pigments, all of which were hand applied and precisely worked.
